29th September: Rainforest storytelling and building wildlife bridges!

Wednesday 29 September 2021

17.00-18.00

Hear the story of Costa Rica’s endangered spider monkeys and build model wildlife bridges to keep them safe from predators and human settlements. Together storyteller Helen Tozer and rainforest ecologist Jenna Lawson will discuss the threats posed by deforestation, and our role in combating it, as well as how wildlife corridors can help spider monkeys survive in a precious but endangered ecosystem they contribute so much to.

Please send us your questions! We’d love to talk about them during the workshop. You can submit these questions on Eventbrite when you register for this event or add them to the live chat on the day.

You will need:

  • Paper
  • Coloured pencils or felt-tips
  • Something to build with, for example, a construction toy like LEGO® or DUPLO® bricks; or clean packaging from your recycling bin; or a collection of small objects from around your home.

This workshop is aimed at children aged 7-11 and their families.

LEGO® and DUPLO® are trademarks of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this event.

11th September: New Town Sounds Basildon

Basildon is set to come alive with MUSIC, STREET ART, THEATRE, FAMILY FUN and much, much more!

As part of the New Town Sounds festival I’ll be storytelling and crafting on the first floor of Eastgate Shopping Centre on Saturday 11th September 2021. No need to book, just come along!

Who needs to fly away for adventure? There are superheroes everywhere, from Anansi, the original spiderman of West Africa, to the magical pearl divers of Japan and the warriors that inspired our modern day Wonder Woman. You don’t have to travel far to meet them so pack your bags and come enjoy this free storytelling event! The morning sessions are ideal for our youngest superheroes and they’ll be plenty of interactive dance, music and singing. The afternoon sessions will have lots to keep the over 7’s occupied, with duelling competitions and superheroes challenges.

After the stories you’ll have the chance to make your very own superhero mask and passport to take home. There are superheroes among us! If we have something worth fighting for, we can all be superhuman.
